Preserving Honor and Last One

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 August 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If I have a bowed personality that has been targeted by the card titled "The Last One", assuming I had 4 personalities that Last One destroyed.. what happens if my opponent targets him with preserving honor and choose to bow him? What checks first negation or that an actions effects would be successful then the negation? Thanks

The person playing Preserving Honor does not get to choose what happens to the target Personality.

In any case, because The Last One will negate either option presented by Preserving Honor, the Personality is getting removed.

Correction: Because the card is already bowed, trying to bow it will be a failed effect, not a negation effect. Consequently, the Personality is not removed (contra above)

And I'm just off to add some notes in the Wiki that if something will fail, it will take precedence over a negation effect (which will itself fail).
