Prayer for Guidance

L5R CCG Rules board, 6 August 2009 to 18 August 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Prayer for guidance states that three honor is gained if the personality is destroyed or bowed "by another player's card effect or by battle resolution."

Does this include bowing as a result of resolution as the attacking army?

Yes, per Final Steps in Battles (emphasis mine): "Regardless of who wins, loses, or ties in the battle, all attacking and allied units at its battlefield return home simultaneously; then, all units that returned home bow simultaneously. Both the change in location and bowing are effects of the battle's resolution, even though they happen after it. "

If I move a personality who has been targeted by Prayer for Guidance to an already resolved battle, when he goes home bowed is it considered due to Resolution, thus giving me the 3 honor?

Thanks,

Thank you for your patience.

If I move a personality who has been targeted by Prayer for Guidance to an already resolved battle, when he goes home bowed is it considered due to Resolution, thus giving me the 3 honor?

No. When Personalities return home, and bow if they were attacking or allied, during the second final step "2. Last battle cleanup", this is not an effect of battle resolution, contrary to what happens during the first step "1. Return home". The comprehensive rules have just been clarified to highlight this (see below, emphasis mine).

Final steps, Last battle cleanup: "If battles have ended at all existing battlefields except this one, then any units at those battlefields return home simultaneously, and bow simultaneously or do not bow, under the same conditions as for a just-resolved battlefield. These are not effects of resolution, however."
