A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Control Dark Virtue Open: Target your unbowed Samurai: While he remains unbowed and in play, negate all straightening of a target Personality.
Player X bows personality A which "controls" personality B, does this break the effect of Control permanently?

Yes. http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_R#Remain: "A duration that lasts while something 'remains' in a given state ends whenever the thing is no longer in that state."

The OP asked if the bowing of the controlling samurai would break the effect of Control permanently. Wouldn't the effect still remain once the controlling samurai straightens?
Edit: My bad, I didn't even read the definition. I just responded to the yes.

No. Have a look at the definition of "remain" again.
