A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Ikoma Asa
Lion Clan Samurai you own in and out of play have +1 Honor Requirement, +1PH, and a maximum Personal Honor of 5.
Kitsu Nariyumi
Once per game, before Nariyumi enters play: She goes through her Gempukku. Permanently give her Samurai or Shugenja.
---
If I have an Ikoma Asa in play and I bring a Kitsu Nariyumi into and chose to make her a samurai and pay full for her, do I get the extra honor from Asa? Or does Asa check while she's in limbo between being a samurai or shugenja and then doesn't work?
Thanks.

EDIT: See Below. You do NOT gain the additional honor from buying Nariyumi at full that Asa would normally provide because of timing of gaining honor and when Nariyumi would become a Samurai.
Sorry about that.

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=75414 I think you've got that backwards.
http://rules.l5r.com/Sequence_of_play#Dynasty_Phase "He may reduce the Gold cost to play the Personality by 2. If he does not choose to do so, he may choose to gain Honor equal to the Personality's Personal Honor just before he enters play (also know as "buying for Honor"). A player may only gain Honor this way once per turn."
Kitsu Nariyumi
Once per game, before Nariyumi enters play: She goes through her Gempukku. Permanently give her Samurai or Shugenja.
Both triggers are 'before entering play'.
http://rules.l5r.com/Timing#Resolving_timing_conflicts If two or more reactions, triggered traits, or rules procedures are triggered at the same point in time, follow this sequence from A through F to resolve their order. C. Apply any triggered rulebook effects that are not part of actions, such as rehonoring Personalities instead of Honor gain. The active player decides the order in which more than one of these effects apply. E. Apply any triggered traits on cards. The active player decides the order in which more than one of these effects apply. F. Reactions may now be taken following an action round procedure. Starting with the active player, each player in turn order has the option to take a Reaction to the trigger or pass. When all players pass consecutively, no more Reactions to that occurrence of the trigger may be taken.
The honor gain would appear to occur at step C, and the gaining of the Samurai trait and associated increase in personal honor would appear to occur at step E. Step F is pasted for clarity, as it is the final step in the timing conflict list, showing that there are no steps between E and F, and no steps after F which could possibly apply to the rulebook effect of 'buying for full'.
Edited to add: viewtopic.php?p=773873#p773873 Does the Asa/Nariyumi ruling, if it stands, overturn this linked ruling regarding Moto Chen exp2 being able to be purchased for honor?

You are correct, Chris. I will Edit the above ruling.
