With the card "Ambush" I target one of my personalities and my opponent's "Pekkle no Oni". (for the sake of realism) I use sneak attack and in some way kill Pekkle no Oni.
May my opponent use deeds and words to negate the honor loss from Pekkle no Oni's death? My playgroup is split on whether it works or not.

Yes. Ambush and similar cards do not create an Attack Phase (http://rules.l5r.com/Battles#Battles).
