Armor of the Heavens vs Unexpected Betrayal

L5R CCG Rules board, 9 March 2009

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

This is a timing/negation question:

Unexpected Betrayal: Battle: Target a dishonorable Personality in an army. Cards in that unit cannot perform actions. During battle resolution, the unit's Force is added to your army's total instead of its controller's.

Armor of the Heavens: Political Reaction: After another player targets this Personality with an action: Either gain 2 Honor, or have the other player lose 2 Honor.

If my personality is dishonored and has Armor of the Heavens attached and is then targeted by Unexepected Betrayal; I choose to gain the 2 Honor which would rehonor my personality; does the effects of Unexpected Betrayal become negated?

If this question was addressed forgive my repeat.

No, per Interference with targeting (emphasis mine): "If any of an action's targeting becomes illegal at any point after the particular targeting has occurred, the action still proceeds, subject only to interference with paying costs."

The Political Reaction on Armor of the Heavens rehonors your dishonorable Personality after he is targeted by Unexpected Betrayal's Battle action, so it proceeds.
