It is my understanding that a Battle open action counts as both a battle and open action. I may be confused on this and it may count as only a battle or open action depending on the phase. Or there may be something I didn't think of or I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Relavent text on Pincers and Tail: -Reaction: After a Battle action targeting one of your Personalities resolves, if this card is in your hand: Attach it to him, paying 2 less Gold.

So as an example follow this senario: My opponent bows a personality to use the Battle/Open action on Shrine to Bishamon during his action phase. Is this a legal trigger?

Type Holding Title Shrine to Bishamon Text Temple • Singular Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold. Battle/Open: Bow one of your target Personalities at any location and this card: Give a target Personality +3F.

Not quite. http://rules.l5r.com/Abilities_and_actions#Designators: "An Open/Battle ability creates an action with only one designator, as appropriate to the phase of the game it is announced."

The action has both designators, but only type of action occurs when you play it.
