Bayushi Saya and rehonoring timing

L5R CCG Rules board, 16 June 2008 to 17 June 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

My opponent targets one of my personalities with Bayushi Saya (basic) Open ability (during my turn). Then I announce I'm using the Equip ability in order to attach to my Saya'ed personality a Sparrow Clan Aide or a Utaku Saber.

Sparrow Clan Aide Gain 1 Honor. Political Battle: Target a Personality with lower Personal Honor than this Personality: Bow or straighten the target.

Utaku Saber Weapon Reaction: After the first time each turn this card enters play: You may rehonor this Personality. If you do not choose to rehonor him, gain 1 Honor; this gain does not rehonor him if he is dishonorable.

Which one is the right timing?

a) I attach the card, gain 1 honor (because my personality is still honorable), and Saya causes the honor loss and dishonoring. b) I attach the card, Saya causes the honor loss and dishonors, then I rehonor my guy again using the trait from Sparrow Clan Aide or the reaction from Utaku Saber

Saya's delayed effect would apply at Step D, while the entering-play effects of my cards would apply at steps E or F, but Saya triggers off after "resolving". Do entering-play effects occur while the Equip action is still resolving or after it resolved?

Which one is the right timing?

a) Honor is gained before Bayushi Saya's Open action's delayed effect is applied.

Do entering-play effects occur while the Equip action is still resolving or after it resolved?

While it is resolving. Indeed Sparrow Clan Aide's triggered trait and Utaku Saber's Reaction both make their controller gain Honor after they enter play, which is a step of playing an attachment card (see Using attachments, step D) due to the Equip action's effect, therefore its resolution has not ended yet, that is why Saya's Open action's delayed effect is always applied after any of those entering-play effects.
