Tsuruchi Kimita says:
Fear Battle: Target a personality without followers. His controller may dishonor him, then move him home. If he is still at the current battlefield, Ranged 6 attack targetting him.
I know ranged attacks can normally only target enemy units, but this one is worded rather uniquely. Can I target my own units with this ability?

Yes you can choose one of your Personalities without Followers as the first target of Tsuruchi Kimita's action. Then you may dishonor him and move him home. Then if he is still at the current battlefield, either because you didn't choose to move him home or this movement was negated, the optional Ranged Attack requires you to target "a Follower or a Personality without Followers in the current enemy army" (see Glossary, Ranged Attack) who must also be your Personality that you targeted at first. The restriction "targeting him" in Kimita's text doesn't waive the restriction "in the current enemy army" otherwise it would be explicitly stated. 99.9% of the time, your Personality is not in the current enemy army, therefore you can't meet both restrictions of the Ranged Attack's targeting so it fails and its destructive effect fails too.

Following up on http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=68855.
The response to that question calls the ranged attack optional, however, I do not see anything in the action's text that suggests it is optional. In fact, it seems to me that that portion counts as required targetting?

It's that "if" sentence. The Ranged Attack can't always occur.
