order of battle resolution

L5R CCG Rules board, 12 April 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 12 April 2008

i am the defender and have one provence left. at my last provence is shosuro takuro and my opponent is at -18 honor and his only personality is dishonored. the personality has enough force to take my last provence. what happens? does he die from dishonor before my provence is technically destroyed or is the provence destroyed before the personality or is it simultaneous and if so is it still the active player decision as to what happens?

Alex Jones (rules official), 12 April 2008

If the Attacker Wins:

1. The Attacker simultaneously destroys all cards in the defending army.

2. If the attacking army's Force was greater than the defending army’s Force plus the Province Strength of the province the current battlefield is associated with, the Attacker destroys the province. This is an effect of battle resolution.

3. The Attacker gains Honor from resolution equal to twice the number of cards in the defending army that were destroyed by the effects of resolution. Before the Attacker gains 1 or more points of Honor from resolution, if the attacking army contains one or more dishonorable Personalities, these Personalities are all restored to honorable status, and the Honor gain from resolution is negated.

Shosuro Takuro reacts after step 1 and causes a 3 point honour loss. The attacker is dishonoured out before he destroys the last province (step 2) or gains any honour/rehonours his attackers (step 3).
