Before revealing focused cards in a duel, can I rearrange them so that my opponent does not know what I chose to focus from hand?
Dueling: focused cards question
A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Before revealing focused cards in a duel, can I rearrange them so that my opponent does not know what I chose to focus from hand?
Tentatively, no, because there is an existing precedent: http://www.alderac.com/forumold/viewtopic.php?t=50616.
I will forward your concern upstairs, however.
My hope is that doing so will yield something more recent that I either a) have overlooked, or b) must retcon into existence.
Edit: Aha! So it IS "a", then. Thank you, Zen. Interested parties, see below.
http://rules.l5r.com/Areas_of_the_game# ... mporary.29: "The focus pool area follows the rules regarding the hand..."
http://rules.l5r.com/Areas_of_the_game# ... of_play.29: "A player may rearrange any number of cards in his or her hand that have the same owner at any time, except when this will cause a sequence of effects on the same card to become unverifiable.
"Example: When an action asks the player to show a card in his or her hand, then shuffle it back into the deck, the cards may not be rearranged between the two effects."
