Shuten Doji's Fury and 0 base personal honor

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 April 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 11 April 2008

Shuten Doji's Fury Battle: Dishonor one of your target Personalities: Lose 3 Honor. Bow one or more target cards opposing him without attachments, up to his base Personal Honor.

My question is, if I dishonor a personality with 0 base personal honor as a cost for this card, do I get to bow 1 target or 0 targets?

If the answer is 0 targets, can I use this card when there is no opposition, as I can meet the Required targeting? (for Ring of Water).

Thank you!

Shuten Doji's Fury: (I)f I dishonor a personality with 0 base personal honor as a cost for this card, do I get to bow 1 target or 0 targets?

"One or more" (card text). One.

Note that you must also satisfy the clause "up to his base Personal Honor" - in the case of a personality with a base personal honour of zero you cannot simultaneously choose one or more and zero or fewer targets, so you cannot target the "required targets", so the action cannot be announced.
