Yoritomo Naizen and Ordered Retreat

L5R CCG Rules board, 6 April 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Moshi Amika and Yoritomo Naizen are in battle against Hida Example. My opponent uses Draw Your Blade to bow Amika. I play Ordered Retreat, targeting Amika, who moves home and straightens. My opponent passes. I move Amika back into battle with Naizen's battle action. My opponent passes. I bow Amika to use her ranged attack, targeting Hida Example.

Does Moshi Amika straighten via Yoritomo Naizen's trait, because she straightened while at home? Or does Naizen recognize that the straightening happened during this battle even if she wasn't there?

Basically, I'm asking for clarification on the text "if that Personality has not straightened this battle." Does that mean during this battle anywhere, or specifically while present at this battlefield?

Yoritomo Naizen (Experienced 2) After one of your Mantis Clan Personalities in Naizen's army bows to pay a cost, if that Personality has not straightened this battle: Straighten him. Battle: Even if Naizen is bowed: Move a target Personality to the current battlefield if there are any units in the enemy army there. If this moved Naizen, straighten him.

Ordered Retreat Battle: Move home one or more target Personalities in your army. You may straighten a number of your units up to the number of Personalities you moved home.

Moshi Amika Battle: Bow Amika: Ranged 4 Attack.

Draw Your Blade Battle: Bow a target enemy card without attachments.

http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_B#Battle: "A battle is a process in time, as opposed to a battlefield which is a location."
