A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
A player, 30 March 2008
Darkest Magics
Event If any player has already used or has attached 7 Black Scrolls, they win the game at the beginning of their next turn. If any player ever uses all twelve Black Scrolls, they win the game immediately.
There are now 15 cards with the trait 'Black Scroll'.
How does the second sentence now function?
Thanks!

After some consideration (and the Junta mulling it over in the secret Rules Team tree-fort), we have concluded the following is the best marriage of intent and text:
It is hearby ruled that both sentences of The Darkest Magics refer to Black Scrolls with different titles.
Thus, Essence of Jigoku CAN count toward reaching a total of seven or twelve, but neither Experienced Black Scroll will count toward these totals if its basic version already has (or vice versa).
