Kobune scout and terrains

L5R CCG Rules board, 24 March 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 24 March 2008

I tried to use the advanced search function and didnt see anything on this. Lets say i am player A with a Yu Pan xp with a kobune scout attached attacking player B with Joe Smoe defending his province. The player has only 1 card in hand which happens to be a random terrain we will for purposes unfamiliar ground.

Kobune Scout Text Cavalry • Naval • Scout Can only attach to a Samurai or Bushi. While Kobune Scout is at the current battlefield, other players must discard two cards after each time they play a Terrain.

My question is can he play the terrain if he has only the 1 card in his hand reference the trait on kobune scout?

Yes, he can play his Terrain.

Kobune Scout's trait doesn't add a cost to playing Terrains; it doesn't even do anything until after a Terrain is played.

Only after he plays a Terrain does it force your opponent to discard. If he can, he must. But if he can't, it just doesn't happen (like trying to make a Maw's Grave player loose Honor).
