A test of Courage vs Strike at the Summit

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 March 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Some one showed me a private ruling that A test of courage will stop me from searching my deck for a strike at the center but if i have a strike at the center in my hand I am allowed to play it.

A test of courage Reaction: before an action moves one of your target personalities home from a battlefield: negate the movement. YOu can not target the personality with actions or bow him to pay costs (until the turn ends)

Why would a test of courage stop me from searching my deck and getting a strike at the center. I thought if one effect was negated the next effect of an action would still resolve. example fusami still being able to use her reaction to move in and duel some if her movement into the battle is stopped.

This ruling would seem to be accurate if looking at the old Test of courage, which NEGATED the action, but not the MRP which just negates the movement.

There is no such thing as a "private ruling."

The only rulings that count are the ones made publicly on this forum or http://rules.l5r.com/Comprehensive_Rules. This ensures that they can be scrutinized for errors, clarification, etc.

It doesn't.
