standard bearers and lions strength

L5R CCG Rules board, 13 February 2008 to 27 February 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

standard bearers: After a Resolution Segment ends, if this card was in the winning army, and was opposed at any time during that battle: Gain 3 Honor.

lion's strength: Battle: Target one of your opposed Lion Clan Personalities: Target a Personality not at the current battlefield. Move him to the current battlefield. Straighten him if you do not control him.

can i move away from an opposed battlefield, destroy a province unopposed, and still gain the honor?

standard bearers + lion's strength: can i move away from an opposed battlefield, destroy a province unopposed, and still gain the honor?

No (if I understand the question correctly).

In reference to this question about Standard Bearers and The Lion's Strength.

Here is how I understand the question. I declare an attack, four battlefields are created at each of the Defender’s provinces A B C D. I assign at battlefield A, one Lion Clan Personality with Standard Bearers attached and enough Force to destroy any Province. The Defender assigns at least one Personality at the same battlefield and none elsewhere. I decide to begin with the battle at battlefield D. This battle starts by engaging and the Defender passes. My Lion is opposed at battlefield A during battle at D, which makes her a legal target for The Lion's Strength to move her to current battlefield D, therefore I play it. We both passes and her army destroys Province D.

Unless I make a mistake, my Lion was "in the winning army" and "opposed at any time during that battle" otherwise he won't have been a legal first target for The Lion's Strength during that battle at D. As a consequence, honor seems to be gained from Standard Bearers, doesn't it ?

Thanks.

Let me put the question another way. Isend a 10 force unit containing Standard Bearers to province A. My opponent defends with his personality at province A. I resolve the battle at province B first. During the battle, I move my unit containing tsandard bearers from province A to province B. My opponent passes, and I destroy the province. As the unit was opposed at province A, during the battle, would I gain the 3 honor from Standard Bearers?

Standard Bearers text: After a Resolution Segment ends, if this card was in the winning army, and was opposed at any time during that battle: Gain 3 Honor.

The Lion's Strength Battle: Target one of your opposed Lion Clan Personalities: Target a Personality not at the current battlefield. Move him to the current battlefield. Straighten him if you do not control him.

Yes, you gain the Honor. The clauses about being in the winning army and being opposed are independent of one another. You don't technically need to be opposed while in the winning army. "During battle," refers to a duration of time, not to a location. You are opposed even while at a battlefield whose Battle is not currently resolving (or even whose Battle has already resolved).
