I have Lacquered Armor attached to Daidoji Yaichiro.

Daidoji Yaichiro Reaction: After a Battle action resolves that Yaichiro performed: Either create a 2F Follower card and attach it to him, or move him to a battlefield.

Lacquered Armor Battle: Even if this card is bowed: Move this Personality home.

Can I use the ability on Lacquered Armor, then negate moving using A Test of Courage to stay on a battlefield and attach 2F follower to Daidoji Yaichiro using his Reaction?

A Test of Courage Reaction: Before an action moves one of your target Personalities home from a battlefield: Negate the movement. You can not target the Personality with actions or bow him to pay costs (until the turn ends).

I have Lacquered Armor attached to Daidoji Yaichiro.

Yes.

Wouldn't Yaichiro being targeted by Test of Courage make any more actions targeting him kind of moot? After all attaching anything requires targeting and performing. Right?

Daidoji Yaichiro's action doesn't target.

Sorry Zen for being persistent, however it is a point that I'd like it sorted out.

From your answerhere, I gather that, unless it is the Limited (or in Eastern Hub Port, Battle/Open) action granted to the player, all other instances of actions that attach a card to a personality do not target, unless it is specifically worded as such. Right?

An action targets if its text uses the word "target." Otherwise, it does not.

http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_T#Target: "The word 'target' must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting -- just 'choosing' something is not targeting."

There is no implicit targeting.
