Cartographers and Eager to Fight

L5R CCG Rules board, 14 January 2008 to 15 January 2008

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 14 January 2008

I use the recon ability from Cartographers on a province:

Imperial • Scout • Unique Recon Open: Bow this card: Target a province. During the next battle there this turn, negate the effects of the first Reaction or Terrain action any other player takes.

Does this ability interfere with my opponent using Eager to Fight after I assign units at that province?

Reaction: After a Maneuvers Segment ends, pay Gold equal to the number of targets: Target one or more units in your home. Straighten them. Assign them to one or more battlefields where there is an enemy army. They can not straighten during your next Straighten Phase.

Thanks,

-Steve

If you have one timing trigger of "after" something ends in a sequence and another timing trigger of "before" the next thing in a sequence begins, the "after" trigger to the first thing in the sequence comes first.

Citation

“During a battle” includes both the Combat and Resolution Segments (added 5 August 2007).

Citation

"After Cavalry Maneuvers" is still before anything can be considered "During a Battle," because the Combat Segment has not begun and armies have not Engaged. Cartographers won't stop Eager to Fight.
