Redrawing the Maps part 2

L5R CCG Rules board, 1 December 2007 to 13 December 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

In this thread,http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=61002&p=779443&hilit=Redrawing+the+Maps#p779443, you stated the opponent would control the region even if attached to your province. While this is dealing with Singular, in this threadhttp://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=63696 you said the controller would get to use the ability wherever the region may be. I think these may both be a little off.

Redrawing the Maps Event After the next time this game another player's region enters play, attach it to one of your provinces, even one with one or more regions attached. If it is now attached to your province, gain control of it.

Control: Rule book page 44. You gain control of a card when you bring it into play, and normally keep control of it while it remains in play. There are two exceptions: an attachment is controlled by it's Personality's controller, and a Region is controlled by its Province's owner.

So my first question is this. If I Flip Redrawing and my opponent flips Farmlands, a region I don't control, I would get to have control of it and use its ability correct? It has become attached to my province so then control the card, correct?

My second question goes back to the region being singular. I really don't think there's anyway I can't control a region attached by "Redrawing the Maps" that I flip because of the Singular trait in the rule book, page 52 states "A player cannot bring into play or otherwise take control of a Singular card if he or she already controls a singular card with the same title." So if my opponent flips a Farmlands after I have a Farmlands already in play that is also after my Redrawing the Maps, the event would not work correct? The card would not be able to attach to my province, and would stay attached to their province? Also since it did enter play, my event's effect would be unable to occur again right? I really just want to make sure I've been playing this card correctly since some of the previous ruling seem a bit confusing.

A card with the Singular keyword can not enter play or become controlled by a player if that player already controls a Singular card with the same title.

The your opponent is bringing the Region into play legally. Redrawing the Maps causes the Region to attach to your Province instead of his. Redrawing the Maps (and the rulebook) attempt to give you control of the Region that just attached to your Province, but are thwarted by Singular. Since you can't control the Region, the player who brought the Region into play (your opponent) controls it.

If the Singular Rule ever stops applying (the other Singular copy of the card is destroyed or discarded), then the general rule that Regions are controlled by the owner of the Province they are attached to can reassert itself.
