Share the blame vs Flanking action

L5R CCG Rules board, 30 November 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

So it happens in a game yesterday. Two lion samourai personality are attacking a province of a scorpion we defend with a courtier personality.

It is the lion player turn to play a battle action and he plays a Falnking action bowing one of his samourai and resulting in the death of the defending courtier. The scorpion player wants to know if he could react with a share the blame. I said know since even if the action that targeted the courtier was the lion player's action, it is still the scorpion player who targeted his courtier due to the card's text but i would like a confirmation.

the corresponding text:

Share the Blame: Political Reaction: After another player targets a Courtier with an action, dishonor one of your Courtiers: Dishonor the Courtier the other player targeted. You, then the other player, each lose 3 Honor.

Flanking Action Battle: If your current army has more units than the current enemy army, bow one of your target Samurai there: The enemy leader targets and destroys a Personality in his army.
