Ok, so the situation is like this:
I assign Daidoji Gempachi (3F - honorable) and Doji Random to attack my opponent. He assigns Diagotsu exp2. Gempachi uses his ability. What will be his force after the armies engage?
a) 7 - Daigotsu's trait kicks in once he assigns to defend (he's opposed) and Gempachi's Force drops to 0. He then raises it to 7. b) 4 - As above but after Gempachi's Force is raised to 7, Daigotsu's trait drops it again (to 4).
Thanks a lot.

http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Gene ... bout_stats: "Setting stats to a value: Various effects will set a stat to some particular value, such as effects that switch or copy stats. To set a stat to a value, give an appropriate bonus or penalty.
"Example: A 0F/3C Personality has a +1C weapon attached. An effect switches the Personality's Force and Chi. The Personality's Force gains +4F, and Chi receives -4C. Because the weapon's bonus is already part of the stat, it is not reapplied, and the Personality is destroyed due to having 0C."
Traits apply before abilities. You do not give another penalty, because Gempachi already has a penalty that has been figured into the stat.
