Hida Sozen ruling?

L5R CCG Rules board, 23 October 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

[edit] Hida Sozen (Experienced) Reads, “Hida Sozen 5F/4C 0HR 9G 2PH Crab Clan • Samurai • Hero • Enlightened • Experienced • Unique Other players’ actions cannot destroy Sozen.” [MRP, Samurai Edition, 25 July 2007] Does not die if another player's action (including tokens generated by actions) causes his Chi to drop to 0. [ZF, 26 June 2007]

This makes no sense. How does he not die from having 0 chi. No action that gives chi reduction says ' destroy the target for having 0 chi'. It is rulebook. Is he immune to rulebook death? The question is, what constitutes an action? What can kill him, what cannot? Is every thought in this game considered an 'action' therefore unable to kill him? If the rule book cannot kill him, why in another post did Zen say that an event that generates a killing duel would '' put him six feet under'' ?

Hida Sozen (Experienced): Is he immune to rulebook death?

http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Source_of_effects: "A Personality’s destruction for having 0 Chi comes from the effect that last gave the Personality a Chi penalty, or from the rulebook if there was no such effect." (Emphasis added.)

Ergo, any action that gives a Chi penalty that drops Hida Sozen (Experienced) to 0 Chi does not kill him.
