In reference to my previous thread about Eastern Hub Port and Misdirection, I've got other questions about Purge the Weak.
I play Eastern Hub Port. I attack a province with a shugenja who has a Purge the Weak attached. During this battle, I announce the "Equip" action that my shugenja performs. Before choosing targets for the effects of this action, my opponent plays Misdirection which prevents me from attaching anything to my shugenja (I have more than one card in hand and no The Desiccated in my discard pile).
Does this "Equip" action resolve but do nothing, or has Misdirection prevented it from resolving ? As a consequence, am I allowed to use Purge the Weak in order to take an additional Battle action ?
Thanks for your precious help.
[edited for further explanations] At first I've read the rules about 'Required targeting': "If the action’s required targeting is interfered with between announcing the action and this step, so that it can no longer be met, the action’s effects do not resolve and its costs are waived. It is still considered taken, but not resolved, and if it was on an Action card, the card is discarded normally" (emphasis added) but I still had a doubt.
I suppose we will agree about the fact that this Equipping’s required targeting "is interfered with [...] so that it can no longer be met" thanks to Misdirection's effects. However this interference doesn't happen "between announcing the action and this [required targeting] step", actually it happens during the 'required targeting' step because it takes place after the performing personality is chosen but before the attachment card is targeted. So I wonder whether this rule should be applied and, if not, how to deal with this equipping, its resolution (or lack thereof) and Purge the Weak.
