Few Against Many and unit destruction

L5R CCG Rules board, 11 September 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If my oponent control a Matsu Random peep with unbowed followers during a battle and I manage to make a ranged attack through his followers right on the personality (The Arrow Knows The Way, Tsuruchi Ayame, etc.) and he uses Few Against Many to prevent his destruction, will his attachments be destroyed?

What about cards like Hired Killer, Ruthless Advance, etc? Ruthless Advance says that it destroys the entire unit, so even if the personality destruction is negated the rest of unity is going to be discarded since Few Against Many only protects the personality. Am I right?

Tsuruchi Ayame

Battle: Bow Ayame, and you may discard a card from your hand: Ranged 4 Attack. If you discarded a card, this Ranged Attack can target a Personality with attached Followers

Ruthless Advance

Battle: Pay Gold equal to the target unit's total Gold Cost minus 2: Destroy a target defending unit.

Few Against Many

Limited: Attach a target Follower in your hand to one of your target Personalities, reducing its Gold Cost by the Personality’s base Force until it attaches. Reaction: Before another player’s card’s effect destroys one o your Personalities, bow one of his Followers: Negate the Personality’s destruction.

Effect that specifically say they destroy the unit (Ruthless Advance) will destroy all cards in the unit that they can destroy. If the destruction of one card is Negated, it does not stop the destruction of the others.

Effects that simply destroy a Personality (the RA example) do not destroy his or her attachments unless the Personality is actually destroyed. If his destruction is Negated his attachments are not disturbed.
