A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Something that has been on my mind for a while but I have simply never gotten around to asking:
When an action asks you to target "A Monk or Shugenja", is "A Monk or Shugenja" a valid target for the purpose of redirecting? Or is the redirection restricted to whatever type was named in the first place?

Redirection does not exist in Samurai Edition. There is no general answer, but depends on specific card text.
In older cards, the general rule was you can't redirect to something you couldn't originally target.
