Bayushi Hisako and "Opposed"

L5R CCG Rules board, 28 August 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Bayushi Hisako:

Reaction: After Hisako is destroyed: Dishonor another target Personality who opposed her when she was destroyed, or who performed the action that destroyed her. The target cannot be rehonored this turn. Bow him if he is Crab Clan.

I've emphasized "opposed her", because that's the essence of my question. From the Comprehensive Rules:

Opposed

Refers to a card, side or army at a battlefield that has one or more units in the side opposing it.

The specific expression “to oppose X in a duel” also means to be the other Personality in a duel against X.

Because Hisako only says "opposed her" and not "opposed her in a battle or duel", is it correct that in the case of a duel that occures during the Action Phase (like Impromptu Duel), Hisako's destruction can't trigger her Reaction? However, her destruction in duel that occurs during Battle (like Warrior Challenge or First and Final Strike) COULD trigger her Reaction?

Thanks.

(For) a duel that occures during the Action Phase (like Impromptu Duel), (Bayushi) Hisako's destruction can't trigger her Reaction?

Correct.

(H)er destruction in duel that occurs during Battle (like Warrior Challenge or First and Final Strike) COULD trigger her Reaction?

Correct.
