A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

It doesn't say 'card' either, hence the confusion.
Venerable Master, Farmlands and Matsu Benika all have abilities that can produce something that is neither a token or a card (unlike Hida Dayu's followers who have the 'card' trait), what should these be treated as?

This is from the post you linked to in your original question: "In Samurai Edition, follower, item or personality tokens cannot be created; cards are created instead." (Emphasis added.)

"Personality," "Follower," and "Item" are all Card Types.
IE - they are Types of Cards.
Anything that is a Personality, Follower, or Item is a Card.
I suppose we could post a Venn Diagram somewhere if you think that'd really help.
