Bayushi Saya+Unrequited Love

L5R CCG Rules board, 30 July 2007 to 31 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Relevant Text:

Saya: Political Open: Target a Personality. After the next time this turn his controller assigns him or an action resolves that he performed, his controller loses Honor equal to his Personal Honor, then he is dishonored.

Unrequited Love: Political Open: Target one of the active player’s unbowed Human Personalities. That player may choose to bow the Personality and gain 1 Honor. If he does not choose this, dishonor the Personality, and the player loses Honor equal to the Personality’s base Personal Honor.

Scenario: If I target Samurai A with Saya, then play an Unrequited Love, does that creat a double jeopardy situation? Namely, would they be stuck Performing an action by bowing their personality or outright ignoring the bow and suffering the same effect?

Martin Lund (rules official), 31 July 2007

A Personality or Follower is performing an action if its controller is the player taking the action, and any of these things is true:

Note the whole "if its controller is the player taking the action," line right there. If you hit another player's Personality with Unrequited Love, that Personality does not "Perform" Unrequited Love.
