Iuchi Umeka

L5R CCG Rules board, 28 July 2007 to 29 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I was wondering whether one can trigger the reaction ability on Iuchi Umeka to react to paying the costs on any action of a Spell? For example, can one bow the spell, say Consumed by Five Fires, on another Shugenja (or Umeka) and react with this ability? If so, my understanding is that the effects resolve sequentially. Would this mean that the first effect would not do anything (as there was not a cost of bowing Umeka), but the second effect would take place normally (taking an additional battle action)? ---------------------- Iuchi Umeka Reaction: When paying the cost of an action on a Spell, even if Umeka is bowed, bow one of your Samurai in her army: This pays the cost of bowing Umeka. After the action's effects resolve, you may take an additional battle action that is not on a Spell.

Yes, for reasons and with consequences stated.
