Ambush + seppuku

L5R CCG Rules board, 16 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

With the SE rules, if i use ambush with one of my samourai and decided to use the seppuku reaction to reduce the honor loss to 1: which of this happens ?

1) My personality goes in battle, then resolves it, goes home then performs the three cuts 2) My personality commit suicide then the battle begins and he could not go there (since he is dead)

the text: Ambush Limited: Target one of your unbowed Personalities: Create a battlefield (not at any province). Assign your Personality to attack there. Assign another player’s target Personality to defend there, even if bowed. No other units may move there. Fight a battle there. After it ends, lose 5 Honor.

Seppuku Reaction: Any number of times per turn, before you lose Honor from an action that targeted or was performed by one of your Courtier or Samurai Personalities: He commits seppuku. Reduce the Honor loss to one.

And if the solution to first question is 1, should i announce the seppuku after or before the battle take place?

I'm not going to answer this now, because I'd have to use the Lotus Edition wording of Ambush, and it might be different in Samurai Edition.
