(SE rules) non-shugenja casting spell?

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 July 2007 to 9 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I tried looking for an answer in the SE Comprehensive rules, but didn't find it clearly forbidden, so...

Under Samurai rules, if a Personality without the Shugenja trait somehow ends up with a Spell attached (say, using a Temple Acolyte which is later destroyed or "shared"), can they cast the spell, assuming it does not have "bow this Shugenja" as its cost?

Spells can only be cast by Shugenja.

The Comprehensive Rules are being updated on this point.
