Share the Blame vs. discarded Courtiers.

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 July 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 8 July 2007

If another player targets a Courtier in a discard pile (dead or otherwise) with an action (but does not target any Courtiers in play)...

Can a player react with Share the Blame? If so, is the dead/discarded courtier dishonored?

Political Reaction: After another player targets a Courtier with an action, dishonor one of your Courtiers: Dishonor the Courtier the other player targeted. You, then the other player, each lose 3 Honor.

Zen Faulkes (rules official), 8 July 2007

If another player targets a Courtier in a discard pile (dead or otherwise) with an action (but does not target any Courtiers in play), can a player react with Share the Blame?

Most actions cannot target things out of play, so that would be rare.

If so, is the dead/discarded courtier dishonored?

Rules: "Effects only apply to cards that are either in play(.)" No.
