Naval invasion/attack

L5R CCG Rules board, 27 June 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 27 June 2007

as Per pg 49 of the SE rule book

Naval: The Naval keyword allows you to take the following action available to all players:

Reaction: If you are the Attacker and your current army has more Naval cards than the opposing side, once per battle after engaging: You have the first opportunity to take a Battle action, which must be performed by a target Naval Personality or one of his Naval Followers.

As the answer to my Last Question from you:

In Samurai Edition, there's no such thing as a Naval invasion any more. Reactions are no longer prohibited.

Can you be a little more clearer on the answer.

The thread title mentioned "Naval battle," which isn't a game term. I mistook that for a "Naval invasion" in Lotus Edition, which is something pretty specific. I thought the previous question was operating under that premise of Lotus rules, because in Lotus, Reactions (like those on Akodo Hachigoro) were not allowed under Naval invasion.

Both Reactions trigger from armies engaging, so the active player has the first opportunity to play a Reaction or pass. Last action played takes the opportunity to go first.
