A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I apologize in advance for what I realize are stupid questions.
1) Only Shugenja and Monks can use Kihos. When doing so, do they automatically bow, even if the Kiho says to do something else (but doesn't say "instead of bowing"), and even when the Kiho doesn't specify?
2) A lot of cards that make you duel don't give consequences. Is this because, in earlier editions of the game, death was the default consequence?
3) What DOES happen when you duel and the card doesn't specify a consequence?
4) If there IS a default consequence, does it happen if the duel specifically says that something else happens, but doesn't say "instead of"?
Thanks in advance!

No.

Not "was" - "is." The general rule hasn't changed yet. (It has changed for cards in The Truest Test, but that's all.)
