L5R CCG Rules board, 24 May 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Could you instead search and fail to find? How is that verfiable in a tournament setting, if you are forced to attempt to play a card when there is one in your deck?

The same could be applied to other cards as well. For example, Regions of Rokugan goes off. I have regions in play, and one region left in my deck that I really want to stay in play, and my opponent has Bay of Green Coral. Can I search my deck and "fail" to find my one remaining region (hoping, say that my opponent uses Bay of Green Coral on one of my regions already in play)? Or if I chose to search, do I have to put a region in play?

If instructed to search for a particular type of card, you must find a card of the required type if there is one. [JA, 8 March 2004; ML, JA, email, 19 October 2004]

If you or your opponent wishes for verification that none exist, call a judge.
