Sacrifice of Pawns

L5R CCG Rules board, 24 May 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 24 May 2007

I play Sacrifice of Pawns and my opponent allows me to search my dynasty deck for a personality. What happens if the only personality I am able to find has an honor requirement above my current family honor. Is the personality:

a)placed in the dynasty discard pile

b)left in the dynasty deck which is then shuffled

c)other

Do I still have to try and pay the cost of the personality even though he can't come into play?

Chris Fuchs (rules official), 24 May 2007

When a card is retrieved from a deck with instructions to play it, it is discarded if it cannot be legally played. [JA, 27 November 2001]

If the personality searched for by Sacrifice of Pawns is not entering play due to play restrictions, you will not need to pay the cost.
