Border Skirmish

L5R CCG Rules board, 24 May 2007

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Does the ruling dealing with Unexpected Betrayal (an army exists even with zero units) mean that Broder Skirmish triggers even if there are no units opposing you at resolution?

It seems odd but I would like to know why not (assuming no) so I can explain it to my players.

No, as nothing is actually destroyed. This also applies if they manage to negate their army's destruction somehow.
