Notes from one of your Rules Guys (updated 23 May)

L5R CCG Rules board, 27 April 2005 to 7 June 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Since this forum has been created, it has become a very busy place. It is so busy, in fact, that it is very difficult to answer everyone's questions promptly.

If your question is not answered right away, please understand that we have not forgotten you, nor are we ignoring you! You have probably asked a question that is tricky or lengthy. (Long combo questions go to the bottom of the list of things to be answered!) Because of the high volume of questions asked, I'll often get the easy ones I can answer quickly, and leave harder ones for later.

Please do not repost your questions. It does not get them answered any faster. In fact, it slows the entire process of answering questions.

Another reason some questions are not answered as quickly as others is you may have asked it at a time when one of the active Rules Guys does not have the card text available to answer the question (this is particularly true of some promo cards or new cards).

I would also like to explain why so many of my replies are very short. It is purely because of the large number of questions asked makes it difficult to be chatty. Detailed explanations take time. Please keep in mind that Marty Lund, Chris Fuchs and I are all volunteers. Speaking for myself, I have a technically difficult and often demanding full time job. I'm able to sneak in a few answers while I'm waiting for something, or during coffee break or lunch, but ultimately, answering L5R questions is something I do in my spare time "for the Empire."

I hope this helps illuminate a bit of why things work in this forum as they do.

A few other requests while I'm here.

If you're posting a follow up to an earlier thread, please include a link to the earlier post. This helps me readily go back and fix the earlier post if it has an error in it.

Please do not send me private messages. I do not read them, for various reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture.

Please use complete card titles in your questions. This helps the search function for the forum work more efficiently. It makes the forum more readable to many players, who are unlikely to recognize cryptic abbreviations like TDWWM or IGYMN or WoOT. It also prevents your deputy rules guys from being stressed trying to remember the title of "that oni with that Ranged Attack."

It is not technically possible to set up this message board to allow a thread between the original poster and the rules guys alone. Sorry.
