Moving Doji Ran

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 April 2005 to 21 April 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Battle: Once per battle, target a card in the enemy leader's army. Move Ran into the current battlefield. Straighten her. Give the target -3F.

I was curious if Ran needed to be opposed, so I looked up the defintion of "enemy leader" on the EomE rulesheet:

leader: The Attacker and Defender are collectively known as leaders.

The “enemy leader” is the Attacker if you are the Defender or a

defending ally, or the Defender if you are the Attacker or an attacking

ally. Whether he has units opposing yours does not matter. The “allied

leader” is the opposite of the enemy leader. If you are not a leader

yourself and are nobody’s ally, you have no enemy or allied leader.

Unless I am missing something, Doji Ran can move into Battlefield A by targeting a card at Battlefield B. Is this correct?

Doji Ran can move into Battlefield A by targeting a card at Battlefield B. Is this correct?

Yes, as long as "A" is current. (Fixed.)

[Wrong -- see below.]

Doji Ran can move into Battlefield A by targeting a card at Battlefield B. Is this correct?

No. References to "enemy leader" or "enemy army" refer to current battle, according to Jeff Alexander.
