Bloodspeaker Ambush Bonus

L5R CCG Rules board, 7 February 2005

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from the Wayback Machine (its copy), so posts it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Text Immediate Terrain You may play this card if there is a Terrain in play. Maho Battle: Destroy all other Terrains, Personalities and Followers with the Bloodspeaker or Shadowlands traits gain + 1F/+2C while at the battle. Lose 2 Honor.

This may be a stupid question but......

Is the 2chi bonus gained by the follower considered a printed 2chi or printed +2chi thereby giving it to the personality?

A player, 7 February 2005

A Follower would only contribute it's Chi to the personality if it has a "+"or "-" in front of the number (like Oni no Megada or Parasitic Oni) If they don't have this, they just have 2 Chi .. like the Personal Sohei

okay... so the question still stands : printed 2c or +2c

...

He answered it, but it could be clearer. Here goes:

The chi bonus is given to the follower, if the follower gives a chi bonus to the personality (ie has +x Chi) then that chi bonus to the personality is increased by two. If there is no existing bonus to the personality from the follower then no chi-bonus to the follower will make it that way.

Does this make sense now?

If a Follower gains a chi bonus, but does not have "+X Chi" written in the upper right corner, its chi adds to the chi of the unit, not to its Personality. [JA, ZF, April 2000]

therefore, you get a follower with 2c.
