A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
A player, 19 June 2015
Situation: I am playing The Majestic Temple of the Phoenix, my opponent goes first. I announce a Recruit action targeting Otomo Terumoto in my Province, with the intention of using An Honored Guest to Proclaim him. How much do I have to pay for him? The Good Faith rule seems to imply that I would only need to pay 1G, but I would like a confirmation (or an explanation if I am mistaken).

An Honored Guest Interrupt: Permanently give +1PH to a target Personality the action is Recruiting. You may Proclaim him even if he does not have your Clan Alignment
The Majestic Temple of the Phoenix (Side B) Personalities you Proclaim enter play for two less Gold. Dynasty, [PAY *]: Recruit your target dead (not discarded) Phoenix Clan Personality; you may Proclaim him. Gain 1 Honor

You may pay 1g for the Recruit action, because you have an Otomo Terumoto in your province and a An Honoured Guest in hand, which means that your targeting choice, while not legal during the targeting step of the action, will become legal by the resolution step of the action.
Note that if you do this, you are required to then play An Honoured Guest, as described under Choice Paradoxes: If a choice (such as choosing a target, cost payment or announcing an Interrupt) requires information from another choice that has not been made yet, the player must make that second choice at the time of targeting or payment, as a prerequisite for the first choice. He or she must also stay with that choice through the rest of the action or trait in question, until the choice is officially called for.
