So, using the logic in the above post, in the phrase "air or maho spell" the restriction only applies to the spell card type, (*keyword* *card type* like "shadowlands personality"). Therefore I can use his gold production to pay for an air spell, a maho spell, or ANY other thing that isn't a spell?

Chijin's gold production can only pay for for an Air Spell or a Maho Spell.
Putting on my mod hat for a second, consider this to be THE ONLY nudge (to everyone, not just you) not to attempt to play "gotcha" with the rules team regarding Yajinden Sensei.
