Personal Instructor versus Sendhome

L5R CCG Rules board, 22 March 2015 to 23 March 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 22 March 2015

Per the wording on the card, "After a battle resolution in which this Follower was in an army that destroyed any enemy units or a Province, gain 2 Honor." does the follower need to be present during Battle Resolution in order to trigger the honor gain? This scenario came up:

1) During battle, I use a ranged attack to destroy a personality. Personal Instructor is present during this action. 2) Personality with Personal Instructor is then sent home. 3) Both players pass, battle moves to resolution.

Would I gain 2 honor as the follower was in an army that destroyed an enemy unit after battle resolution? The past tense on the was is what brought up the confusion.

"After" is your trigger, and "a battle resolution in which this Follower was in an army that destroyed any enemy units or a Province" is all one clause. Therefore, the Follower needs to be in the army during battle resolution, and battle resolution needs to be what destroyed the enemy unit or a Province, in order for its honor gain to trigger.
