Progressive and Interrupts

L5R CCG Rules board, 5 March 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

A player, 5 March 2015

Progressive: Absent Political Battle, w: Discard any number of cards to move home a target enemy unit with total Force less than or equal to the total Focus Values of the discarded cards.

Since the targeting now comes before the interrupt step, I'd like to know if you have to discard the cards before, too. Because to be a legal target you have to discard enough fv.

if you don't have to discard, do you have to show the cards you would have discarded if the action is interrupted by, let's say brazen disregard? Just to verify that you could target the lonely 8F unit on the battlefield. Or can you just bait the interrupts by misusing the rule of good faith?

thanks in advance.

Under discussion.
