Comprehensive Rules update and changes thread

L5R CCG Rules board, 26 December 2014 to 16 February 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

The new version of the Ivory Comprehensive Rules document has changed format. It is now a single-page Wordpress document that allows search, saving as pdf, and browsing. It can be reached via http://rules.l5r.com/Main_Page and here is a direct link. This thread will also serve as a change log.

Significant changes include: Good Faith Rule update: You now have to set variable Gold costs so they can correspond to legal targets they are linked to and to cards you are bringing into play with Recruit and Equip. Among other things, this means that Equip can no longer be used as a "null" Open action without a good-faith attempt to bring an attachment into play. New rules for when continuous effects conflict.Disciplines that put themselves into play are removed from the game after they next leave play.Gold Costs explicitly refer both to their action and to the cards they put into play.

Changes for Feb 4.

Show: This has been changed so that "look" effects clearly trigger "Show" references. Targeting reference definition: Added to clarify when a reference to targeting actually creates an instance of targeting. Targeting paradoxes section: Added to handle cards such as Rae Sensei and The Abbot (Exp. 3)

Changes for Feb. 16.

"Discard a card" has been clarified: it only refers specifically to discarding a Fate card from the hand if the effect creates a discard. This makes necessary the technical errata to Seppun Tasuke, but on the other hand ensures that Voice of Experience can work as written with, for example, effects that discard cards from the tops of decks.

Action sequence clarifies that Gold can only be produced for actions that do or might have a Gold cost.

The "Abbot" example under Targeting paradoxes has been slightly tightened up.
