I realized that I and others may be playing this Stronghold incorrectly this whole arc. The battle / engage on the stronghold does not have absent. So I should not be able to use either action unless I have presence, correct? So if my lonely personality is sent home using the favor, I can't use the box to move back in. I can't use the engage to move a unit over unless I already have a unit there. Am I correct?

All correct. The Unicorn Stronghold's ability does not have Absent, and cannot be taken as a Battle or Engage action without Presence.
