Keyword Permanence

L5R CCG Rules board, 17 September 2014 to 27 October 2014

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I had asked this question in a similar form back last arc, but things have changed since then.

If I first give a card a temporary keyword then later that turn attempt to give it the same keyword permanently, what happens? You cannot give a card two copies of the same keyword so would the permanence of the second along with its application be negated? What happens at the end of the turn when the temporary keyword is then removed?

Example 1:

If I first use Ivinda Village to give a Personality a temporary Cavalry keyword, then latter that turn attach Elephant Cavalry to that personality. Does the permanent keyword granted by Elephant Cavalry override (negate) the previous application of the keyword? I would think in this case, since elephant cavalry is an ongoing effect that at the end of the turn when Ivinda Village wears off, Elephant Cavalry comes back to replace it.

Ivinda Village Open, (*): Give Cavalry to a number of target cards equal to the amount of Gold you paid.

Elephant Cavalry Will only attach to a Human. Cards in this unit have Cavalry. Melee and Ranged Attacks targeting cards in this unit have -2 strength.

Example 2:

What happens when the effects are not on-going? For example, what happens when you use The Breeding Ground first then target the personality with Legionnaire's Appointment?

The Breeding Ground Limited, w: Give your target Personality Conqueror.

Legionnaire's Appointment Limited: Permanently give your target Personality Conqueror.

Example 3:

What happens when a permanent keyword is removed through Victory Through Deference then gained again temporarily? Is there a conflict when the effects wear off? Does Victory Through Deference attempt to return the Keyword, but can't because there is already a copy of the keyword there, thus causing the permanent keyword not to come back?

There is some very strange timing and effect undoing here and it is very difficult to capture in code.

Thank you.

I don't see any reason why Abraham's ruling here would have changed. Applying a permanent keyword to a Personality with a temporary keyword will not result in that Personality gaining an additional copy of the keyword, but will result in the keyword becoming permanent.
