natsumi + way of the scorpion?

L5R CCG Rules board, 26 August 2014 to 14 February 2015

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

so would the interrupt from http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=11613 apply to both cards from http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=11862 or any other card that shows multiple cards? Also do i have to declare her interrupt before i see the card or after? With how interrupts target before effects and all. Hopefully you guys will answer this quickly

1. The Interrupt only applies to the first card Battle Strategy shown. It creates a delayed effect that is triggered by the showing of one card Battle Strategy, then is gone; otherwise, it would say, "After each time...".

2. You would have to Interrupt before the card is shown. Interrupts are taken before any effects of the action resolve.

EDIT: Typos corrected!

Regarding this viewtopic.php?p=1438484&sid=8415ae4ecc3b9aeca2ca48f777900fd9#p1438484

Could you please explain your reasoning?

The trigger of Natsumi is "After the action shows a Battle strategy...". Why should this trigger drop off after a card, be it a Battle Strategy or not, was shown. I could understand that the first card being a Battle Strategy would drop the trigger. But if the first card is not a Battle Strategy, I don't see a reason.

My additional problem with the ruling: how do I tell which card is shown first? Wouldn't they be revealed simultaneously?

Edit: I think part of my question became meaningless by your Edit from card to Battle Strategy, as this now implies to me that at least if the "first" shown card is not a Battle Strategy, the trigger is still there for the "second" card. While i still couldn't figure out how there is an order of those cards shown.

Well, you are correct about only Battle Strategies dropping the trigger. I got tripped up by the terminology used in the asking of the question, and have corrected my answer above.

As for the simultaneousness of the triggers, I was still correct that only one will trigger the effect; the active player chooses the order in which simultaneous triggers are "seen" by the effect.

Also, Natusmi's interaction specifically with Way of the Scorpion is under some discussion. Please stay tuned!

I realise that Natsumi and Way of the Scorpion are under discussion, but I think for a reason other than this (if I am incorrect please just add this to the other thread).

Way of the Scorpion has the effect "Look at two cards in his hand or Provinces". Natsumi's ability interacts with effects that show other cards, but unlike many other actions, Way of the Scorpion does not show cards. Do these two cards interact at all? If they do, is this because Natusmi looks for synonyms of 'show' in abilities (look, reveal etc): a 'plain English' approach?

Per the newest CR,

SHOW When an effect asks a player to show a card, he or she displays the face of a face–down card to all other players, then return it to its face–down state. In a two-player game, this is the same effect as looking at another player’s card, but from the other player’s perspective. However, this is not the same as revealing, which keeps the card face-up.

In any game, a reference that depends on showing a card also includes “look” effects.

So these cards do now work in conjunction.
