A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

While I understand Boiling Point's focus effect doesn't target, does that mean if it doesn't target, it is always plural? If so, is there any way to tidy up these rules going forward? They just seem contradictory.

You are correct, that because Boiling Point doesn't target it is not restricted to the "targeting is singular by default" ruling made in my previous post.
If Boiling Point was intended to specify a single choice, it would have targeted, or been worded to show the limit of a single Yojimbo to receive the bonus. It is currently the only card we are aware of that has this wording where the pronoun receiving an effect could be both singular or plural. We are indeed aware of the confusion which Boiling Point has caused, and will be addressing the wording used should future cards be subject to the same singular/plural confusion.
